According to C. C. Green in his book 1213 was painted plain black in 1948/9 when it was renumbered 9. All were repainted in BR Green with the lion-over-the wheel logo in 1956 when they were named

In 1982 No. 9 was turned out in original VoR "Improved Engine Green". Now that I remember ! I was lucky enough to see it just before it was officially unveiled. Bright is an understatement, it was quite easy to spot . I can't find my photos, unfortunately.

Popped out of the office to get a shot of No 9 in the new livery on the 2pm service and surprise surprise No 8 came along too. Not often you see a double header on the VoR.

Great to see the VoR putting number 9 back in a historic livery even though the maroon livery was very attractive. Would love to see one of the locos in either late lined BR green again or the lined BR blue (although I suspect I might be in the minority on the latter…..).

You'd have at least one supporter!

For now though, No. 9 looks good in black - I really must pay another visit to the railway to see her! ;)

    Two....

The lines history runs into the Blue era, so it's hardly like painting up something that went for scrap in the 60's.

I would also like to see No 7 return in (lined) BR blue.
Is No 7 actually being worked on at the moment? Or is something else from the VoR's "non-indigenous" collection being restored, now the new workshops are open?
As an aside, I notice that No 9 (and from what I can make out No 8 also) have lost the "notch" in the bottom of their buffer beams which seemed to be very controversial on NatPres. Hope those who complained about it in the past now express their appreciation for its disappearence to the VoR team!

For those not on Facebook a very nice video from Penny Steam of No 9s first day in service in the new livery.

Don't think there is any movement with No 7 yet unfortunately, apart from some fundraising with the Wren during the summer.

I would like to see it restored in BR lined green initially but it would be nice to see one of the three in lined BR blue at some stage.

Is the plan with the nice new workshop that more of the VoR's collection of locos would be restored (for display or service)?

I had the pleasure to see No 9 last week. What a finish! I didn't think I'd like it!

here's a deliberately taken selfie to illustrate

Can any of the VoR guys say why they are clearing the trees between the mainline and VoR in the area between the Llanbadarn and the Government offices?

    Thanks

Part 2 of PennySteam's lovely video of a trip on the Vale of Rheidol has now been posted:

Some stunning scenery now available to see from the train after great work by the VoR to open out and restore the views, especially on the upper sections of the line.
For anyone who hasn't visited this lovely part of the world, well worth the effort, with all the other Great Little Trains of Wales reasonably close by too.
