My photos, including shots of the diesels, which were 47500 and 37706, which I spotted at Clapham on the way to Vic. Thought this was rather odd and perhaps it was a clever loco move for later in the day, however both locos pulled the train out of Vic and then 47500 was used to take empty surplus coaching stock back to Southall after the train was serviced near Battersea Park.

    Anyway:

    44932 descends into Victoria

    Passing Ebury Bridge

37706 and 47500 remove the train

Lastly, met a friend off the VSOE after Clan Line had arrived, had anyone been about Grosvenor Bridge, they would have had a fine shot of 44932 and 35028 next to each other!

No need to apologise - thanks for the confirmation anyway. I was pretty convinced I had heard a steam loco briefly in the distance - must have been when it was heading between Herne Hill and Brixton, with the wind coming from that direction.

At least you regained a good bit of time on the direct route!

Now I know why 2 diesels were parked discretely away from peering eyes at Clapham over on the Hounslow/Windsor platform spare track.
    We live and learn.
