Signalling problem (sorry, issue) near Aldermaston. 30 min delays for a short while but as mentioned,
Britannia passed through shortly beforehand. Line virtually back to normal at 19:15. <BJ>

Saw it arrive & depart Theale tonight. Not sure about the sig problems but the preceding local, 18.33, off Theale, was cancelled which resulted in 70000 arriving a tad early. Also left Theale early at 19.03, this is when the next local was due. Seems although the locals were messed up 70000 got through. Down HST's were running albeit very slowly.

You weren't a hundred miles from me then at Theale. I was down the far end of the platform with another chap. I presume it was you who just beat me with the text update.
Must of been a treat for those little school kids.

With all the doom & gloom surrounding main line steam at the moment it was nice to see 70000 perform well today & attract a lot of attention. Never seen so many people at Theale before as there were tonight.

I think there had perhaps been some publicity in local papers or radio, as the trip was intended to be with Tornado. It was nice to see them bringing that school outing to see it in the morning, and I don't think the little kids could tell the difference :)

Very nice to see a brit on the VSOE after so many years. When 70000 is painted into BR green, Can we get her to do this trip again but with full GA embelishments?

I suppose the last time a green Brit & pullmans ran in this area would of been The South Wales Pullman around 1960 when the WR Brits were transferred away.

Some great videos of this run on Youtube. I was very disappointed that I found out too late to book some time off to see this run. Would have loved to have seen the Original "Brit" on the Pullmans. Hopefully after impressing on this run she might get another go on the VSOE.

Put me down for seeing that as well. Would Jeremy Hosking be interested in renaming and numbering her either 70004 William Shakespeare or 70014 Iron Duke though?

A quick look on Google images shows photos of 70004 and 70014 with handrails and on the GA.

'04 and '14 had handrails during their time a Stew lane. Its a shame 70013 cant work the VSOE. Much easier to change the 3 to a 4?

Could we persuade VSOE to do the Kent circular rathe than the Surrey Hills? Whe was the last time the VSOE appeared on boat train route 1?

70004 was one of the few to have handrails to the end.

VSOE was a regular visitor on the Folkstone Harbour branch until recently, mainly diesel hauled though.

Took a mobile phone video leaving Theale but it was too dark to see anything. Anyway here is the sound clip from it, not brilliant but you get the general idea.
