Re: Pannier Ramble 3rd November and Nat Pres day out...

I'm very interested in this tour as well.

Only snag is I'd be travelling from Weston-super-Mare and the earliest I could get to BNS is 08:25 which if anything went wrong with XC, (quite likely) wouldn't work out so well.

If the tour doesn't sell out Ben, would you entertain the idea of a one way fare from Worcester to Tyseley ? At least that way I'd get the climb to Lickey, and getting home from Birmingham wouldn't be a problem at all.

    Cheers

Not a problem. I can do you a part-journey ticket. Getting from Western to Worcester should be quite easy, then back should be ok too.

Give us a ring in the office (ask for me) and we can get it sorted for you.

    Cheers!

Many thanks, that's extremely good of you. I'll double check with a mate of mine who I'm seeing tomorrow if he'd like to do it too, and I'll give you a call.

    Thanks again Ben

This is a great opportunity for the Nat Pres community to have a day out with steam , meet up and give something back to Preservation behind two great machines

Also it may also be a chance to meet with some of the movers and shakers on main line steam and see first hand just how tricky it is to organise a tour like this

How Many coaches will be on this tour Ben? And are the panniers going unassisted up the lickey incline?

All is progressing as planned with this one. We had the two Panniers out over the weekend running a Lunch Train over Harringworth Viaduct.

The pair were double-headed to and from Melton Mowbray, but top-and-tail over the viaduct with a very managable 8 coaches.

We are not anticipating having to bank these two up the Lickey! They might not be the fastest mainline steam has to offer, but they will have no problem pulling coaches up "slight" incline!

"Oh, are we at the top already?"

To all the NatPres members who have booked so far - Thank-you and see you soon.

To everyone else....WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???

We still have a few seats in the NatPres coach...but not that many now.

Think I'll be booking this one at the end of the month. Have wanted to do Panniers on the mainline ever since I got into mainline steam 10 years ago!

Re: Pannier Ramble 3rd November and Nat Pres day out...

All, minor change to the program - Nothing bad!

We are now departing from Tyseley Warwick Road (Museum) platform and not stopping at Tyseley Mainline. There is enough time for anyone on the 9:03 arrival at Tyseley to trot down the hill to meet us for a 9:20 departure.

Also, we are top-and-tail to Stratford....something a little different!

We have 45mins in Stratford to run one engine round and water. We also have a "Wetherspoons" break in Worcester Shrub Hill for 2 1/2 hours.

Anyone that is on the fence about this one, I strongly suggest you go ahead and book your seats sooner ather than later. Not that many left!

Any clues as to the return time yet Ben, last train for stopping north of Crewe is 19.18, else might have to bail out earlier.

And the last train to get us North of Crewe via Manc leaves Tyseley @19:45...

Though the trains from BNS to Manc depart 2030 and 2057. How much would a taxi be to BNS from TYS? Or is there a bus service we could use?

A taxi service is approx 7>8 pounds. I would not subject anyone to the No 37 bus on a Saturday night!

A Wetherspoons break...you know your clientele too well! Just a shame I'm working for this one :(

Any chance of a set down stop at Kings Norton? That would makes things easier for those who have to get back to Birmingham earlier. I'm going south to Bristol after the tour (to do the Railmotor to Looe on Sunday) - last train in 21.00 from New Street, so 19.45 at Tyseley should be OK, but could be dodgy if running late.
