Nice shots Michael, I was at the far end of the runway at Filton.

After a bad start to the season, the dessicant bags in engine intakes problem, the Vulcan appears to have performed well. Looks as though there were crowds at all the flypast venues today. Aircraft now safely on the ground at Finningley for the winter.

    Yes Ralph, all hand held.
There wasn't room for everyone there let alone a tripod and a clear yard to be able to spin around!

I heard on the radio this morning that an appeal is being launched for more funds to keep XH558 flying in 2013, this being her final year before being permanently retired.. if this is correct then it is indeed very sad news.

Apparently it needs some mod's to the wings which will cost in the region of £200k and they have decided not to proceed with this, so 2013 will be it's last year.

Chris Evans mooted an appeal on his R2 breakfast show this morning. He ought to be able to whip up the £220k I'd have thought.

I have been saying this for some time now with XH558 - it can't fly forever. Its best to end its flying career with one last hurrah around the airshow circuit in all its glory rather than let it die slowly as wear and tear take its toll.

78% of the funding has been achieved of the £400k required. Dec/Jan sees Hangar tours which must be pre-booked.

Some excellent news.......investigative work has been undertaken on modifying the leading edge of the wings in order that it's flying life can be extended.....super...
