Just write 100 times, 'I must look at the nameplate when the engine passes', and don't do it again!;)

Good to see how "steamtight" Leander is around the glands, something Galatea wasn't initially.

IMO West Coast have flooded the market with this trip this year.

If you look at the once a week Fellsman (the lancashire version of this trip) for example, its fully booked, every week.

Living in the Wakefield area, i know quite a few people who went on the Scarborough Spa in recent years, but none for Dalesman/Waverley trips.

I think the destination is very important esp for families, and Carlisle im afraid is akin to Wakefield/Huddersfield.

Dont get me wrong i want West Coast to do well, but theyve got it wrong this summer

The Waverley is an RTC operation, which was successful in previous years, but that was when it was steam-hauled throughout. This year it's only steam from Hellifield, and suffering competition from West Coast's own-brand Dalesman operation. But the Dalesman loadings have increased from eight coaches early in the season to eleven now, so are they really doing that badly? The regular Dalesman fare is £4 lower than the Waverley, so I suspect West Coast are gaining at RTC's expense. But offers like the above of course beat Dalesman prices hands down.

Ah didnt realise it was different company...my error.

I would have thought this trip or even Scarborough Spa next year, will be Flying Scotsman territory.

Now that will be a money maker whichever promoter gets that loco agreement!

It sounds like the Waverley's are struggling to fill with all these discounts, but looking on the Dalesman's, this last few weeks since the school holidays started, they look to have been well filled.

I hope it is a successful operation. I'd like to think that the S&C is England's West Highland Extension and I thought it would have been before now that daily working would have become the norm a la Jacobite.

Ooh, I hope you're right. That will give me a "full house" this week:
Tue: 46115; Wed: 45231; Thu: 45699; Sat: 46233; Sun: 45690. Another "who'd have thought it, 47 years on?" moment!

I wonder if more (or less?) seats would be filled if it were possible to indicate the planned loco for each trip a day or two in advance?

I've a couple of day's holiday I could use to travel on the Dalesman, and fancy a run behind 45699 and 45231...... just a thought..?
