I think the advertising is misleading. Go to the Jacobite website and then tell me if any reasonable person, on viewing the website and making a choice of ticket that could be as early as next week, would reasonably expect anything other than steam haulage, on "The Jacobite Famous Steam Train"?

This Google search is revealing: diesel site:www.westcoastrailways.co.uk/jacobite/ It is blank - in other words, there is not a single mention of the word "diesel" anywhere in the Jacobite website.

The fact that they are still advertising it as a steam hauled trip is misleading if they know at this point that they are not able to deliver steam, but nonetheless continue to sell tickets based on the image they are presenting online.

If advertising is misleading, make a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority. They investigate and adjudicate quite quickly, and no need to employ lawyers.

Anyone who feels to be mislead can also make a complaint via Citizens Advice who will refer the matter to Trading Standards for consideration.

So is that based on information / confirmation from WCR, or a hunch on the part of the website author ?

At least 2 maybe all 3 of the Locos above appear to be still on the NYMR.

I doubt it's a hunch. UKSteam info is usually very reliable.

WCRC press release: "... may need to delay..."

Scotsman: "... unlikely to launch services next week".

Hmm. Slight difference in probabilities there.

I agree, but we're in rather unreliable times atm, which is having a knock on effect everywhere. Just wondering therefore where the info for this I trip came from.

    Thanks

The Scotsman article is a pretty bland regurgitation of a couple of NetRail releases and the WCRC release from yesterday.

Lazy journalism ! Maybe you should write to the Editor and tell him / her. Never been easier in these social media times.

I believe uksteam gets direct info from operators, rather than platform end wibble or even Natpres.

I'm sure that's true, and also sure that historically that info has been very reliable. Just wondering how reliable it can be expected to be at the moment.

I would expect that David will not publish if he is not sure of the accuracy of the information.

Just tried online booking and it would seem that the earliest availability is 18th May.

You can't book any seats on the train until the 18th May so most likely there are no trains running.

The Jacobite coaches have not yet left Carnforth.

I think the present situation is that WCRC and the tour operators set great store by the 15 May date when the temporary suspension is supposedly due to end.

It remains to be seen whether their optimism is justified.
