I have finally managed to get the remainder of the Hafod y Llyn opening day pictures on my Fotopic website. Some of you may have seen them, but, if anyone has not, and would like to, this is the link :

As is my usual practice, this is the 'Stop Press!' collection for new pictures; in due course they will be transferred to the Welsh Highland collections and you will then find them here :

    and

    and

Hope that they are of interest.

I'll be making a visit to the WHR after my holiday to the Isle of Man in a couple of weeks time. Last time I'd visited the WHR was about 3 years ago when I did a tour of Welsh Narrow Gauge lines.

I had a ride on the new extenstions today, and have to say it was very impressive. I couldn't get on the 11.35 to Hafod-Y-Llyn as it was fully booked, so had to wait for the 2.30 in which I spent 2 hours in Caernarfon Castle (as well very impressive).

The route through Abergalsyn was breath-taking, and being a photographer it also made me note a few lineside options along that route. Something I'll have to do in the not-to-distant future!

No 87 is a very good loco, but did have some problems on the return trip to Caernarfon, but it was nothing serious.

I was also at the castle yesterday and we then followed the 1135 along the road.

It was double headed with the diesel, which seemed to be doing all the work. what was the reason for that?

I must say the 1135 didn't look packed out from where I saw it.

143 is having its front power bogie changed, so K1 is covering for it along with VoF due to the weight.

Could be that a coach party was boarding elsewhere.

People interested in how the WHR is getting on, including progress with fundraising, installation of LC's, a possible new maintenance loco and an upcoming meeting with the WHHR, might like to have a look at this post on the WHR forum, summarising news from the latest WHRS AGM. A couple of concerns, but overall it makes very encouraging reading!

    Hi Chris,

Would you be able to summarise it. I tried the link but it's not accessible to guests.

On another note last saturday I was on the special and my first ride as a passenger there since 2003. Although I've worked on a few different parts of phase 4 (trackgangs and office) I'd yet to see the whole route in context and the pass by rail. I know I'll be biased in my opinion as someone travelling the route the journey was fantastic and the scenery breathtaking. My guest on the trip was equally if not more impressed and was keen to return. A few others are also after hearing about it are equally keen to visit. I definately agree that the views can change completely with the weather-from clear views to mist over the mountains. On the railway front 87 was working hard and was music to the ears heading out of Beddgelert!

To answer another thread unless the scenery changes the WHR definately has a future.

It only takes a minute or two to register, a lot quicker than it would take me to summarise that post lol!

Anyone know (and prepared to post) what the major problem was on Tuesday 15th?
This has been described as a major incident that may need to be reported to the RAIB. It is seemingly not the failure of 143 and long delays to passengers.

    Hi,

Registered but can't say I'll be on there all the time. Small matter of a degree as well!

As far as the other incident reported on isengards site I'm a little puzzled myself. I wasn't entirely surprised that 143 ran into problems as it didn't sound completely well when I was there but I can't think of anything obvious that could of gone wrong for the other incident.

    Regards

    Duncan

Nope. It seems trains ran normally the next day so it couldnt have been that bad - im sure details will emerge in due course.
