Saw a photo on Facebook earlier of one of the Manors banking 60103 out of Lydeard, with the caption saying the A3 had slipped to a stand earlier in the day.

I noted on WSR.org.uk that a new WSR Poster has been commissioned - "Steam Trains to the Seaside" - See below. Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase one of these posters, or are they only for use by the railway?

Yes, FS slipped to a stand with 8 on so the manor gave some assistance. Then the manor romped up with 8 on, no problem, showing how it should be done.

These have been commissioned by Sam White of the WSR's Commetcial Department as an advertising poster.

But there have been a number of requests for them to be made available for purchase, and that is being considered (or at least, will be, after the excitements of Flying Scotsman have passed).

It would do no harm for you to make your views known to the WSR Commercial Drpartment - contact via the WSR website.

West Somerset Railway - Then and Now #60

    Watchet 1958 / 2017

Not a great deal to say that viewers won't pick up for themselves. Into the early 60's the sidings saw considerable goods traffic.

The additions to the Goods Shed occasionned by the recent refurbishment and extension of the boat museum are obvious. Watchet is to be congratulated on its community efforts in recent years.

We had the same problem with a King-hauled excursion from Minehead a few years ago which failed to get up Washford Bank unassisted early one morning.

I do appreciate that GWR / BR(W) Manors are not prototypical WSR locomotives but they do seem very much at home.

I am, of course, fortunate to live halfway up the bank from Williton to Crowcombe and never tire of listening to the last train of the day barking its way up the valley. Very special.

Living 2 miles or so away from Old Hill Bank before I flew the nest to the Fens, it was always nice to be able to hear something hard at work up there. Steam or Diesel, when it's working hard it sounds bloody good! 2 weeks ago I could hear a certain A1 on my way to work, put a smile on my face and a spring in my step! :)
