    Did locos other than GW never carry WR stle reporting numbers when on GW metals then?

    As mentioned, the Canton Brits regularly did, I've seen a pic of 4472 doing likewise on railtour duty in the 60's.

    I seem to remember that SR crews worked their Bulleid pacifics over the GW route between Exeter and Plymouth from time to time (and WR crews worked Halls and other GW locos via Oakhampton) to keep familiar with the road in case of short-notice diversions. What happened then? Did Spamcans carry WR reporting numbers or the more usual bit of hardbord wired to a handrail with the reporting number pasted on? I don't suppose Halls were fitted with extra lamp brackets on the smokebox to allow them carry SR route headcodes, were they?!
