44932 flew up Upwey bank on the return - quite possibly the loudest thing I've ever recorded. Just uploading the video now...

Just to compare to that great video James here's just the sound of the climb in the morning, try listening with some ear/headphones, I'm just a little too far away to catch the stall in the tunnel though:

Perhaps there were no passengers at/for Chetnole, as it's a request stop!

Tickets booked for this. Thanks for the heads up. Looking forward to my first trip behind a Castle in almost 30 years.

Received tickets today for the 14th July WSE. The letter states that 34067 Tangmere will be hauling the train. Subject to fire risk/steam ban I suppose... :(

I've just been looking for some indication of whether Sunday's trip to Weymouth is going ahead as planned, and what DL assistance might be provided. I see that the Nunney Castle website now refers you to the official LSL "Icons Of Steam" website for all news and railtour bookings. I guess that also means an end to Ben, Nunneyfixer and the other support crew members tipping us off when there's something interesting happenning.

Mate of mine phoned RTC today and was told that 5029 is confirmed but a decision on diesel assistance won't be taken until Sunday morning.

Do the people at NR who make these decisions work on a Sunday morning?

Based on the premise (promise?) that Saturday is going to be as wet as a wet place on a wet day, I am going to take the gamble that this will be Steam powered*, and hence drive 180 miles (round trip) to film it.

*If its got a Diesel on it, pragmatism on the day will see the crew deciding the "right" thing to do given the circumstances! The right thing being use the steam as motive power.

Well I'm booked on it so fingers crossed it's a 100% steam operation on Sunday. The trouble with having a diesel for insurance purposes is that I believe the weight of the diesel puts the train over the load limit for 5029 on the route, in which case it will have to shove a bit on the banks.
