Another realistic idea - New St - Whitby behind a 37 (264 if mainline registered) with a set down at Grosmont.

So considering the time 33207 had to leave York to get the only available path into Whitby,an overnight train from Brum?
Or you could go in February when NYMR aren't running when Grosmont really happening and Whitby bracing.

Then the small matter of 37264 being based at Grosmont, and I believe getting TPWS treatment only in due course,so Battersby wil be it's limit(and NYMR safety case for that only?)

There are (in my opinion) enough tours already in the pipeline with 55022, 40145, a multitude of 37s and next year should see plenty of Class 50 tours. Although these are all popular locos, I'd like to see something a little different. The 86 is a good start, personally I'd like to see some tours featuring classes 20, 31 & 33 all of which have seen very little mainline passenger activity in recent years.

Could always use a WCRC example but as you point out, i assumed there were more spare paths into Whitby than that so back to the drawing board...

As said above 37264 is only getting TPWS for NYMR use to Whitby and Battersby.

31s from Brum International (it's convenient for a lot of people, cheap parking at weekends, plenty of paths, etc) to anywhere (other than Skeg)? :)

How about a pair of 31s International - New St - Nuneaton - Leicester - Peterborough - Norwich?

Birmingham (or Bridgenorth?) to London Marylebone using class 52 one way and class 50 the other. 50's were used on the Paddington-Banbury commuter trains until quite late on so this could tie in with Chilterns plan to start loco hauled Birmingham-Marylebone and could celebrate the Chiltern line upgrades back to proper main line status.

Just a quick thank-you to all who have posted here. I am going to put it all together, in conjunction with the comments from Facebook, and see what I can cobble together for 2011.

    Cheers!

Is D1015 available next year? Sure I read it is having repairs until 2012. Reports on Svr forum that D1062 is being considered for mainline in the future. Not a diesel fan but never been behind a deltic at speed, Glasgow or Edinburgh from Brum at a decent price would maybe tempt me, especially if steam were involved up to Crewe!

Put me down for a tour with 33s as well (not to Whitby though!). Quite like the idea of using 86259 as a supporting act.

better still a double headed 33 bash to Exeter, then either the western or a 50 to kingswier and end it with a western running back along the GW main line into Paddington , but my real wish is for a duel steam diesel run, with 5043 running waterloo to exeter, then the western takes over to kingsweir with 5043 on the back ,then a run back along the gw main to reading and back to waterloo via staines and call it the Western intruder railtour then at a later date run a railtour using either 35028/ 34072 or 34046 from paddington to kingsweir, then drag it back to exeter with double headed 33,s that can then bank it up to exeter central , then the steamer runs unaided back to waterloo and you could call this the southern interloper

How about recreating the "Yorkshire Venturer" of 11/11/1978. Scribbled in my combined volume is 47077 Cardiff to New Street. 85013 new street to Stockport. 47008 Stockport to Guide Bridge, 6115 Scots Guardsman, Guide Bridge to York, 35028 Clan Line, the York/Knaresborough/Harrogate loop. Can't remember how the return worked but 47203 was in the scheme of things as well.
Plenty of 47's about, substitute mainline 86 for 85, Scots Guardsman is about of course. Doubt that 35028 would go North for one quick trip but there is enough about to do a fair recreation of a lot of that memorable day. And a nice combination of heritage modern traction and steam.

    EEEK!

Do you know how much we would have to charge for a ticket to cover all those loco's? Plus it would be a very long day and I don't have any vacumm sleeper stock!

Not to mention the cost of getting 1015/45112/46035 back on the main line first.
There are some real dreamers out there.
