Evidently 4/5305 is going back into LMS livery, which as far as i'm aware will make it the only one of the mainline bunch of 5's, to be so treated.

I believe there was actually a shorter wheelbase version of the Stanier tender that did have a 3500g capacity but whether these actually found themselves paired with 5XPs is a question I don't know the answer to.

I thought this loco was owned by the Beet family?

When 45593 was withdrawn and purchased by the people at Tyseley, it had a Stanier 3500 gall tender. The 4000 gall tender paired with 45562 was purchased from Cashmores for use with 45593. 45593's original tender was purchased by John Bunch and the frame set used for the hybrid tender for 73096.

Although it is owned by Chris Beet, the idea of a lined black Jube, with Cycling Lion really appeals, especially as someone recently posted that they 'had heard' that 5699's current livery was coming to the end of its life ! The possibility of TWO in the same livery really does it for me, as I am booked on the 24/1/15 CME. Bring em on ....

Won't it just look like all the Black 5s which are in lined black?

That is exactly what I was thinking. A black Jube doesn't appeal in the slightest.

Galatea is now my favourite! I think that the next Red jub will be 5593 at Tyseley. I hope Clun Castle is out of the shop so work on 5593 can begin.

6201 shall be coming out in LMS colors next year.

I hope Mr. Beets gets tired of his black in a year, doubt it though. There are only 2 locomotives I like out of Carnforth. The loud barking 45231 and 5699.

Not quite; 6233 repaint is now reported to be postponed for at least 8 months following reduced incomes from this year's main line running

A quick perusal of the Locomotive monograph on the Jubilee's shows a number of Stanier Tendered Jubilee's carrying Lined black and early crest including 45699 , but not 45690 which got as far as black but with British Railways on the tender. Photographs on a quick peruse are scarce although one is in the book of 45574 albeit with large numbers

LMS Black might get me more excited but as gets posted all the time (and reflecting my own sentiments) It is only a protective coating so whatever it comes back looking like is a great result. Would just like to see more variety- and whilst the lining may be different it will still just look like a black 5..........

Good on the 5305 LA guys for bringing back its pre-BR guise!

Do wonder if Mr Beet's reading this and thinking somthing like 'FFS I've spent thousands on this and all these people can do is moan about the colour!' Personally I try not to get to uptight about liveries only a coat of paint and all that, but it is nice when the stock matches the loco. I thought 4566 looked good this year in black and with the carmine and cream set at SVR spring gala.

Funny how when I say about a Green 9F, some people go completely off the handle preaching owners perogative etc, yet when he uses that right to put black on it, many of the same people complain they don't like it, talk about double standards.

*I don't mean you specifically Chris, just your post illustrates my point.

At the end of the day it is always the owners choice, and a discussion forum is just that- a place to discuss! I completely understand what you are saying about people going off on one though.

(and regarding 92214- it does look smart but it wouldn't be my choice- I preferred lined black;) having said that I am not a fan of the Mk1 Potting shed they have created..........)

Back to Leander though, look forward to seeing it out and about saw it at the GCR (incidentally) a few years ago and thought it was a lovely machine, I wonder if 46441 will get a turn out again now?
