I recall that it was you that was preaching and going off the handle about how painting a 9F green was "Not Preservation" and that the owner was a liar - double standards?? We certainly do get your point.

And I believe 45593's original tender tank is the one now used with 48305, on an ex-Fowler tender chassis which is itself now thought to be much older still!

The trouble with black is that one has to be a bit of a nerd even to notice the different kinds of lining, and even more so to identify them as LMS, BR or whatever. Red, green or blue is much more distinctive and more likely to appeal to Joe Schmoe and family. And you can have different reds, greens and blues. But I do also agree that it's good to have another loco back in service, regardless of colour.

If you mean in current times, then probably yes, if you mean in preservation & mainline, then 5407 was in LMS black back in the early 80's.

I had a good trip behind her on the Cumbrian Mountain Pullman back in 83 - 17/8 to be precise, 40 073 took us to Hellifield where 4507 took over. :)

Several fives have run in LMS livery in preservation.. not in this century though.

4767 (Unlined plain black), all the rest lined LMS Black
    5000
    5025
    5231
    5305
    5407
    5428

also 5337 ran as M5337 for a period.

Personally, those with "1968 history" should stay true to period history, as thats what made them what they are.., 5000 for example should be LMS as it's where it's history was cast.

a return of 45025 would be nice.

Rileys seems to be quiet, what happened to 45212,( and 47298 for that matter.. it was working when it went in).

I wouldn't be surprised that Most of Rileys energy is going toward 4472 before 45212

I'm really mad that I even started this thread all those months ago. All of this negativity towards paint schemes

    I apologize to Mr. Beets

Wouldnt worry about it too much Mike I have a friends who own diesels and everytime they have a repaint the livery is always the wrong colour! Funny thing liverys what 1 person thinks is rather nice can get someone apoletic with rage

Part of the reason that I became interested in UK steam was because the different colors used on the locomotives. So that is why I'm disappointed about 5690 and the thought 5699 going black to has me as not a happy camper. Thank god there is good news development on the very loud Apple Green B1 1306 this week. I just don't like Black on passenger locomotives and red is one of my favorites. I swear that I hope Lizzie shall emerge in LMS red.

It gives me more motivation to take a 6201 tour in the near future. I going to leave 5690 and her sister behind should Galatea be painted Black there is enough black and gloom in Carnforth.

Really? I think I might prefer to ride behind a black Jubilee, where the sound is the main thrill, than watch it disappear into the landscape. I've heard many different steam locos over the years, and despite my strong Southern bias, I can say that nothing sounds quite as exciting as a Jubilee running fast, working hard.

Well in a few years time we'll have 2 'Scots' and Bahamas in green, Kohlapur, Lizzie and Sutherland in Red. We'll also have working another 2 jubes and a Patriot (liveries unknown just because we've seen a little hint of 1 colour dosnt neccesilarly mean anything esp where Carnforths concerned) Looking at that list above thats a rather impressive stud of Motive power, I think we should be a tad grateful that we're in the position that we have somthing like that just from one company in working order rather than moaning that 'I dont like 45xxx, its the wrong colour'.

I think black engines sound better than green ones, personally. ;)

So 6233 in black sounds better than 46233 in green? Intriguing.
