Lined black judging by the cab side. Wonder if the livery has been chosen because its stablemate is destined to go green soon?

Would have thought LMS Black would have been more interesting

Lined black, early logo.. too much like 45407/44871 really.

Are we sure someone hasn't accidentally put a nameplate on a Black 5?

Might it be lettered rather than emblem on the tender by way of differentiation?

    I'd prefer Galatea...
Ah you mean like 44932 in the 1990s ?

    Nope,

I'd like a black Jub, just for sheer novelty value! ;):)

Heck. I'd like to see a Jub full stop - haven't seen one in 30 years.................... last time was 5690 in LMS livery under the roof at York on the Scarborough Spa........

Was Silver Jubilee the only one turned out in black and chrome when new? I'd rather like to see one in that livery, even if it does mean assuming a different name/number for a while.

Kolhapur did this at East Lancs in the early 1990's.

    Not my picture

If I recall it also ran as 45700 Ameythst and 45698 Mars in lined black using the fowler tender borrowed from 42765 also on a different occasion.

Correct 1994 although I think strictly speaking 45700 ought to have carried its original name for that period of livery. Britannia.

Stand corrected. Couldn't remember the research we did at the time but it was clearly correct!
Perhaps 45698 ought to have been green though?

Has anyone heard about a test run or are the crews waiting for September when the Fellsmans and Waverlies are through?

Don't you think that this could be black undercoat as there is not a lot of gloss on it and the lining is just to confuse the spy's.

You are quite right and only the people looking after it know their intentions. There was that daft ruse last year with 45699 carrying Leander plates for the aborted test run that only got as far as Carnforth station. Does prove those at 10A are not averse to engaging in some subterfuge.
But why waste time and money?

45593 looked superb in BR livery as 45698 Mars as shown in this picture (not mine):

    Also (not mine): mars.jpg

I think 45690 needs a "refreshing" change. She has carried her LMS guise since the early 1970's.
