Could be an interesting exercise in commercials vs livery coming...

Its been suggested many times that people prefer a loco in 1960's BR livery to any other, we'll soon get chance to put it to the test...

with a choice of a Red one, a Black one and a Green one coming... which one will get the most railtour business (and beyond loyalty to a specific loco) will people vote with their feet to the livery they prefer ?

one thing a double header of jubilees won't be atheistically balanced, though a combo of any of 46100/46115 or 45596 would be a bit of a feast and with 5 Stanier express 4-6-0's available soon, the dawn of the stainer 3 cylinder fleet is coming.... surely at least 1 of them will make a home in the south.

I just wonder if livery is as important to those who ride behind steam as it is to those who photograph it? Not that these two groups are mutually exclusive.

exactly what I said.. it barring other factors (such as not wishing to over use the loco / reliability and of course customer loyalty to a specific loco), if livery does indeed influence business ?

I openly admit it does for me, 6201 does nothing for me in red and whenever it's return is, I won't be that bothered either if it still is, that reflects that I haven't ridden behind it in more than 15 years.

On the other hand 46115 / 70013 / 34046 / 4464 / various 5MTs upfront however Ive done as passenger and photographer a number of times, and even though it's repeat business I like it's appearance when I look at it (from the window at speed or the platform or along it's route)... so livery is an influence to me, my wallet as well as my camera... shoot me if you don't like it, but it's my wallet at the end of the day and I chose how to spend my hard earned, interesting to see if others do the same.

3 near identical Jubs in 3 different colours is probably a good a test as any.

I'm not a 1968 or bust type, i'd love to ride behind a 21C167 in Southern green on the mainline someday...indeed colour (to me) means business... I remember chasing a Swanage trip a few years back, and took a taxi to Swanage .. the taxi driver (a normal with no apparent railway knowledge) described the "fantastically looking blue streak one those guys have done up and looks the part"... pretty easy to guess which loco he was talking about... I reckon an unstreamlined Bulleid in malachite would attract good business on the mainline, where are 4472 in Black I reckon the public just won't attach with.

nowt like a good livery debate, should we create a livery debate thread ?

Only those who contribute to the upkeep should have any influence.

As a "loco owner" I would like to point out that anyone who buys a raffle ticket, makes a donation, buys merchandise has, in their own small way, contributed to the upkeep. I realise that it would be impossible to contact these people for an opinion at the time of a repaint but their views should not be discounted in the long run.

And, of course, passengers also contribute by paying fares to travel and hence funding whichever method of paying for the locos upkeep is relevant.

I think you mean aesthetically balanced! I don't think the different colours of the current working Jubilees has anything to do with people who don't believe in God!

So I guess no one has any idea of when Leander shall be tested on the circuit. That is despite how much I despise the livery.

Looks very nice, but, to be pedantic, the shed code should be 11A.

Wonder if Leander might be a guest to either of the KWVR or ELR October galas, keeping it fairly local

    Ie This side of York.
Personally a black jubilee looks better LMS black with polished chrome letters, motion and Tyres...
But that much cleaning is not WCRC Style, their locos do tend to look like working machines not Museum pieces
