    He wasn't in the seat when it left Carnforth. Not sure what happened at Ais Gill but it wasn't mechanical or lack of steam. Must have lost brake pipe for some reason.

    Sounding great coming up to Ais Gill but then a sudden stop just before the road bridge, and before the signal came into view. Any idea what could have caused the halt ? - low water level in the boiler??

    I think Kevin Treeby was driving Carnforth-Carlisle. 54mph reported at Grayrigg - incredible.
