    We had four inches in Kendal on Tuesday but most of it has gone now but it is still on the tops up Shap . Number 9 in steam today plus 44932 at Carnforth

    The A4 certainly appears to be in exceptional order and being managed superbly. Drivers and firemen deserve full credit for what must surely be some Blue Ribband efforts so far.

    Would love to see some Blue Riband attempts but the 20mph slacks at Helm and Breaks Hall have put paid to that unfortunately. In any case, I think 60009, as superb as it has been, would struggle to match the very best of 46229 and 71000.

    My offering at last, just getting to the end of editing both clips when PC without warning shut down for restart after installing updates... Lost quite a bit and had to start again... OK should have auto updates off, it is now.

    Perhaps so but it would be interesting to make some contemporary era comparisons over the routes. Based crudely on observation no. 9 appears a startlingly competent hill climber, very swift.
    The fact is nowadays as well locos are at a weight disadvantage if they have air brake equipment compared to 80s and 90s champions. Not sure that coal quality is as consistent these days either. We should all savour it now.
