Has the line reopened after yesterday's derailment yet? An earlier post suggested it would be mid-afternoon today (Thursday). If not, will there be any knock-on effect on Saturday's CME? Would that have to start from a different station, for example?

They seem to be suggesting tomorrow afternoon on another forum. 1Z99 crane is en route.

Latest I have that line should be open 2pm today, Friday, so CME is to go ahead as planned.

The line was due to be handed back at 2pm yesterday but that was pushed back to 2pm today. Not sure how they are getting on.

For those who may be linesiding it,M6 looking pretty treacherous atm at Kirkby Lonsdale so imagine could be quite bad on the lanes! Not going to risk trying it with my Punto this time! Seems as though it's nearly down to 1 safe lane going north!

You can see current conditions at Kirkby L at: (tick traffic cameras and then select M6)

Would love to be there for this but travelling from home in Nottinghamshire with those reports from Steve I might give it a miss and stay local for the GCR gala. Anyone know what the A66 is like from Scotch Corner please?

Don't know what the A66 is like but heard it was on the verge of closing from a friend 3 hours ago.

Roads in Yorkshire wouldn't be too smart for you either, around an inch added to what was lying and reports on facebook suggest it's like a skating rink as it was preceeded by an ice blizzard! Might not even get out for the ECML diversions at this rate :/

    Cheers,
    Mark

Indeed good luck and stay safe! For those not familer with the area,if it comes to it I would recommend parking at Tebay services and walking across to the line at Greenholme, that's what I did back in 2009 in slightly better conditions.

Still falling hard in Wakefield, now over 3-4 inches fresh snow....

Just heard the latest forecast on Radio Cumbria. Snow is moving over to the east tomorrow but very icy conditions and some
roads could be treacherous. So take great care if you're venturing into the hills.

    Me......I'm staying put!

Thanks very much for the updates gentlemen.

I'm afraid (even though I'm usually an idiot) a 300 mile round trip in these conditions is too much for me to contemplate sadly. Looking forward to seeing the 5s from someone braver and nearer. Should be a great sight and sound. Take care anyone who does venture out.

Hope the pasengers can make it too.

    Chris

Sadly the weather has also shelved our plans to film the two Fives. I can only echo what has been said for everyone going out, take great care.

Up and ready to go awaiting lift, wires are down between Wigan and Preston at Euxton but hopefully that will not affect the line from Chorley.
Good luck if you are venturing out.........Phil.

Looks like this trip today is going to live up to its title WINTER Cumbrian Mountain Express. There should be some unique and spectacular photographic opportunities........happy hunting but take care..
