Agree it's very smart red. No intention to create a livery debate just intrigued as to whether it is still red. Time will tell.

I hope this is a conscious effort by West Coast and RTC to appeal to the enthusiasts so that we can make a choice of the motive power, rather that have the 'wait and see'. Only one problem now arises, how many like both options, I may well have to book on a second one for the alternative as already on a 70013 trip.

Unfortunately stating 46115/45699 does not help me , since I want to know which trips 46115 will haul, since it is one of the few locos currently on the mainline that I have not travelled behind. Travelled behind 45699 on a CME last October.

Some constructive criticism - I can understand having a Pool to cover all possibilities, but would it not be possible to state which engine is preferred for which day ?, if circumstances dictate another loco from the pool has to be used, people will understand, at the end of the day we all have preferences to travel behind, but I think all agree a steam loco of any description is better than none.

UK Steam now states 70013 not available for the 22/2 and lists 45305/45699/456115.

There is an event on at the GC on this date " BR standards weekend"

Hope we get one of the 3-cyl locos - not had either before!

Would seem unlikely for it to leave GC to do the 15th wcme either in that case but still shown as listed.
Is 70013 already on GC metals?

Bit of a tall order for 5305 solo with the normal 12 load for this train.

    Short of a load reduction (unlikely), I can't see a black five producing solo, 44932 + 45305 perhaps ?.

Agreed Stephen, it can be done but it's also that being at 60mph loco there is still the problem of being caught before Carlisle, maybe having to stop at Penrith.

Doesn't sound like sensible planning to me.

Ralphw where's your memory gone, remember the mods 1st CME trip.. 45305, solo in the snow, that turned to a blizzard, that shut Shap to road traffic... We plodded along in the 30-40mph range all day, apart from the descent from Shap to Carnforth..
There was no photographers out on the return.

After that the double headed them.

Incidentally 22nd Feb is your friendly moderators 3rd annual CME trip.. Say hello.

Personal preference..It would be nice if we had Galatea hint hint please.

If the load is more than 10 unlikely. Galatea only just made it with 10 on a CME in October.

The difference being that 5305 didn't have to tackle Shap northbound on that occasion. See you on board - Scot for me please ;)

Was the VT trip in November a sellout because wasn't that an 11 car train behind Galatea.

I usually cross 5305 out when I see it listed w/more powerful locomotives on the route over Shap
Recall that 60009 did all 6 trips last year when all of them sold out. Apparently the 5 was designated for the last three WCME's last year.
