WSR 2011 Spring Gala

Always been my biggest disappointment whenever I've visited WSR galas. Last time I mentioned it I was told that it wasn't done as it means whoever crews it is unable to do a turn the next day. However at galas its about doing something different. Surely 1 evening beerex from Minehead and return could work on the Saturday? SVR, Llangollen, and a few other lines operate till about 8/9pm on their galas. Why not WSR?

 

An excellent day yesterday - train ran on time, staff were friendly, weather superb and 70000 was magnificent. Photos to be uploaded once I decide which site to host them on!.

Today went well, apart from 7812 being replaced by 9351. I hope that Erlestoke Manor is not too seriously indisposed.

 

Demand? I usually do stay until the last train on each gala and they could probably run with 3 or 4 coaches to be honest. Also its unfair on volunteers having to work long shifts. I don't see the problem with what they give currently. The only thing I'd change is the departure times at each end to xx30 starting at 0830 and running until 1830 (from Minehead at least).

 

Anyone know what happened to the Manor today and will it be back in action for next week?

Also quoted on WSR.org "On Wednesday 23 March GWR 0-6-0PT no 6430 with Autocoach no 167 will be in
traffic along with BR 4-6-2 no 70000 Britannia and be sure to look out
for a heritage freight movement from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard at some time

Can anyone tell me what time these movements are and which way the locos are likely to be facing.

I had an excellent day out yesterday with some excellent photos and videos taken... apparently. As soon as I got home earlier today, I discovered to my horror that my camera was no longer in my bag, and that the last time I had seen it was putting it back in the said bag on the 17:51 Taunton-Leeds service. However, as I had got off to dine in Bristol, its current whereabouts could be absolutely anywhere from the Commercial Rooms Wetherspoons (anyone know how to contact lost property with Spoons?) to the Grain Barge Bar in Hotwells, or on the FGW service to Cardiff Central, Cardiff Central station platform (where I was disturbed by the usual drunken revellers whilst waiting for the 23:07 train to Swansea), or the said 23:07 service to Swansea. Suffice to say, I have little hope of seeing it returned, despite the fact that I have contacted most of these companies. So a word of caution: always keep your camera in a zip-up bag and not a satchel-type design where it could fall out without notice (its strange, as several other items that usually would have fallen out didn't). A very expensive, and with hidsight, very preventable problem...

Sad to hear about Erlestoke, particularly as I had a decent video of her departing Williton on the said camera.

I'm due to visit on Thursday and will buy a brochure/ticket when I arrive, but wonder if anyone can give me a head's up on what's likely to be running? Timetable on the website suggests a 3-loco service(?), and I'm led to believe 4160 and 2807 are two of the locos in service. If the third is 7812, 30777 or 70000 then I'll be very happy!

If anyone can advise whether the Norton shuttle with 6430 and if any freight will be running that'll be great.

Without wanting to give anything away to those that haven't purchased the WTT as yet.... I don't think you'll be disapointed if you want to see all the mentioned locos in action ;-)

 

Fantastic day yesterday,70000 and 2807 are really awesome locos. Love the sharp bark on the 28!

7 locos in service (all the visitors), two different freights (come early), auto shuttles from Minehead etc. You wont be disappointed !

7812 has a blown flue tube, how bad or where I dont know.

Its not a blown tube, its just leaking but still requires replacing, not sure as it will be running next weekend in all honesty.
