Its not that simple for anything to be run!
There has to be contracts in place regarding use etc, so whatever does bring them in will not work over the gala unless that happens, which is very unlikely

Oh well, hope it's visible to photo during gala. Such a tease to have a 50 there. Will make sure to capture the ECS.

  5. GWR have issued a poster describing their shuttle services between Taunton and the WSR on 10 & 11 June 2017, notably as part of GWR's "WSR Away Day" offer. See gwr.com/wsr for more on that offer.

I may have missed it but there appears to be no mention of the goods trains on the WSR website.
    Have they been cancelled?

If they are running I would have thought it a good idea to promote them. <BJ>

  7. Hoovers 7 and 49 are currently resting in the BL loco compound and very smart they look to. Nice to see Defiance back on WSR metals again, if only briefly.

7820 Dinmore Manor and her tender both arrived safely at 4.30 this afternoon and are presently being unloaded.

  8. Attached is an official leaflet for the SIBA Rail Ale Trail being staged in conjunction with this weekend's Diesel Gala. It gives all the detail you could possibly want about the Trail.

I strongly recommend a hearty full English breakfast before embarking on the Trail, perhaps aboard the QB. :) Be careful if you are intending to visit Stogumber though, as a handful of trains don't call there. An odd decision, given that it is the only intermediate station hosting a Trail bar. QB trundles through without stopping just after the sun passes over the yard arm on Saturday. Doh!

Is there chance of the 50s moving from ash pit. Remember the 66 siting in goods shed siding but relize you can't fit 2 50s there.would be nice to have them to photograph this weekend.

Unfortunately the 50s are currently banned from working between Bishops Lydeard and Minehead by the WSR Infrastructure Manager.

Thanks for that link Barry. Looks like a very useful site, not least the 'Jargon Buster section' should be a great help to me in deciphering some of the references on Nat Pres!

I think it is a bit hard to say the locos are banned 'by the WSR Infrastructure Manager'. They are overweight for the present rating of a number of WSR structures.

Now, in my time with 'the big Railway' I held 'loads examined' and 'exceptional load' qualifications and was involved with working closely with the Civils on
operational arrangements for Rail movements items like bridge girders (often now sadly moved by road:() and there are mitigations that can be put in place.

The visit of Flying Scotsman in September has caused the WSR to take a long hard look at its infrastructure and a lot of hard, unglamorous work is going on this s summer to be ready, and properly certified for that.
