    I gather these were temporary "add-on" air horns, which sounded (to me) just like US/Canadian diesel horns. It was quite eery hearing the multitone sound of these horns echo across the valley on the way up to Crowcombe. But I've not found any U-Tube clips which feature them yet !

    That brings back memories for me of June, 2007. It was a clear, still evening as the sun set over the Californian mountains.
    A freight train was heard slowly climbing the 1 in 49 incline approaching Tehachapi Loop.

    The sound of those horns still sends a shiver down my spine. <BJ>
