It would be helpful to know, A definitive yes or no answer RE 1010, If it isn't running me and my group of 6 need to cancel hotels by Wednesday, So we can get our western fix elsewhere,

We are well aware of the state 1010 is in and need of an overhaul, just asking cause that the only thing that appeals to us.
Also if its out of the gala does that mean its running days are also caped TIA

I expect we all have different ideas about what constitutes 'rare'. I would say that they are rare because I only remember reading a few weeks ago that the first 68 had worked to Bridgwater, and only one since. I've no idea how many have worked west of Bridgwater but I don't recall reading about more than single figures only. However, I stand to be corrected if I am wrong. As a matter of interest, can you supply any figures, BJ? My local line, Waterloo - Exeter, may not have had any at all! Finally, what makes me decide they are rare is that I have yet to see one!

This part of the information on the DEPG website is the only info about D1010 in the public domain.

"Western D1010 may make a limited appearance during the gala. The loco has had a lot of work progressed
over the winter. We’ll let you know when we know any more, the loco will be on static display for a lot of the gala
    at Williton."

Unfortunately I doubt you will get a definite answer before Wednesday.

The WSR isn't near Bath but I've managed to visit the railway on eleven occasions this year. The volunteers at the WSR travel much further distances than that to carry out their duties.

If I want to see a particular engine or visit a railway I'm always prepared to travel. It's always worth it. <BJ>

The 68s are set to be regular visitors to Bridgwater hauling nuclear flask trains from Sellafield. The locos will be around for a few years yet so I'm sure that you'll see one soon. ;) <BJ>

We're not so far from either Bath or Bristol.

Depending on the train, Bath is either 53 or 1h19 minutes from Bath on the direct trains, and the Cross Country services do Taunton Bristol in 30 minutes.

I did that trip in reverse yesterday and had a very pleasant Sunday lunch in Milsom Street, Bath, having watched some traditional Bath street entertainment as below.

    I do love Somerset...

I agree with you there Robin but I especially like the area between Taunton and Minehead. :) <BJ>

Thanks to Ian Monkton for adding the timetable.

It does not show which BL-MD train on Friday and MD-BL train on Sunday is the DMU. By implication there has to be one?

Last year there was confusion as to whether the Saturday 19:30 MD-WT and Sunday 08:50 EN-BL were ecs or passenger trains. Presumably they are both to be trains this year.

From staff rosters, the DMU on Friday is the 1755BL - MD and on Sunday is the 1745 MD - BL (I'll retire quickly before the complaints about the latter come in!) I would say that the WN terminator/starter are service trains as they are in the published timetables.

There are also goods trains not shown at 0850 MD - BL on Friday and 0835 BL - MD on Saturday.

Things are looking up. Well done Robin. <BJ>

Robin White appointed WSR's Operations Project Manager.

The WSR is pleased to announce that Robin Moira White has been appointed as Operations Project Manager.

Robin will work within the Operations Department alongside the existing staff. Her role is to research all aspects of the department's work, to recommend changes to improve the department's effectiveness and implement those that are agreed by the Operational Executive Committee. This is an initiative to ensure that the critical operations department is robust, secure and sustainable into the future. Robin said:

I am very excited to be taking on this role for the WSR in which I believe I can make a significant contribution in the coming months.

Robin brings a wealth of experience to the role. She is a professional railwayman, a member of the Institute of Railway Operators and of the Chartered Institute of Transport. She has volunteered on heritage railways for over 30 years, acts as signalman and line controller for the Railway and lives by the side of the line. Robin also has considerable experience in change management processes. WSR General Manager, Paul Conibeare, welcomed this appointment and said Robin's background and experience will enhance and strengthen the department, ensuring that we continue to build a robust future for the WSR. Robin plans to start work in the next two weeks.

The loco certainly drew a lot of interest when it ran from Paddington to Plymouth, it was very popular at the recent SVR gala and has now been asked to attend the Didcot diesel gala. The WSR and other railways have to cater for the majority of people not just one person.

As John Lydgate wrote “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.

    Think about it. <BJ>

Cannot please all of the people all of the time when it's confirmed to be at Didcot and working SVR timetable C the same three days.

Think about it really that's as far as your thinking goes?
The railtour you quote being the first 52 out of padd for ages wasn't a sell out as they were trying to sell Plym-Exe tickets on the Friday
Again this illustrates how the WSR gala team have the smallest phone book in pres again bringing in a loco that has worked on the line loads of times instead of something different. If you thing is Hydralics you would already be coming for the 35 & 42 you can't come twice because of the 52. If they had brought in something different, 20-31 or 37 or even a 50 then there would be different people and more ticket sales, the 52 will not bring in any MORE people that we're coming to the gala as it was
