I dunno, I think last time it was in blue a major oversight by the SDJR in not doing so in the first place was corrected. :) It did look smart, and I do like that pression blue, much nicer than BR's express blue IMHO.

Had a quick browse through several S&D photo books last night and there are a few examples of double headed 7F's as others have said, but the comments in the captions were "rare and unusual".
One of the most obscure combinations (to me) was a bunker first Jinty piloting a Flying Pig. As said previously, at weekends it was probably grab what you could to help get the trains over the route.
Interesting alternative (and in theme) to a Black 5 would be 43106, but it could be the SVR is already a bit short of motive power with 34053 away at the event.

It is hard to choose when you get clashes, but having the gala over two weekends lets one have the bun and the ha'penny! I'm doing both.

I feel that a 50th anniversary of closure of the S&D event would be more complete with a Standard Mogul (76xxx), as these were very much the staple diet of those bitter sweet last months. But 76084 is also on the North Norfolk Rly gala roster, and I'm not sure whether any others are in running order at present. That is not said as any criticism, and we should let nothing detract from the superb efforts of the WSR gala organisers. They deserve a massive turn-out for the gala.

53808 looks absolutely stunning. The lads shouldn't need to pay for a drink at the gala!

76079 is in service at the NYMR but because of the Whitby runs I doubt they would let her leave.

43106 was at the 2012 ASG which marked 50 years since the Last Pines Express.

My local railway, ELR, has had the temerity to have their's 11 - 13 March! To no avail, my spouse and I our making our usual pilgrimage south, no contest. Although there are a couple of locations I haven't got Wells yet, always leave something to go back for.

What is wrong with you humans? The Dark Lord Sith says all that is metal must be black.

I mean seriously, have you ever seen Metallica perform a gig in blue or green or red. No!
