Fair enough. You have been briefed on this. Well I am sure that people will have their own views on the whole NE steam business. Those closest to it will inevitably have their own 'take' but all of that comes to nothing once a report has been published as that is the 'given' no matter what anyone else may say or think. And Sheff is also right about how you keep a clear audit trail of exactly what has been said, even informally.

But this is all history and it seems that an alternative plan for steam will be running in 2015 and who can blame WC for steering clear of the NE, for a while at least. Exactly what the businesses in Scarborough will think is another matter.

I think people are taking the adjudication as the definitive reply to a question of fact between 2 parties BUT he can only adjudicate on the facts as presented by both parties; is there a suggestion that not all the facts have been presented for whatever reason ?

Although it was the fire that triggered the action, all parties accepted (a) that the cause of the fire was nothing to do with the loco working when it shouldn't have done and (b) that WCRC took appropriate action to make another fire from the same cause unlikely. The serious bone of contention concerned WCRC's procedures, and was exacerbated by apparently conflicting statements from WCRC at different times. The judgement was that, against that background, the ban was reasonable. The ban could very well have covered the whole country and remained in force indefinitely. See paragraphs 5.8.3 and 5.9.4 of the report. That it did not was to the considerable benefit of WCRC and their customers. We could have had a lot more to be sorry about.

What is the current position? Is it that the ban is suspended rather than lifted? Does that mean that, unless things change , as soon as amber conditions are declared, the ban will be re-enforced?

Mentioned in this weeks Railway Herald that RTC have no plans to run the Scarborough Flyer in 2015.

I just wonder if the SSE has continued in its current form as long as it has based on the presumption that 'Flying Scotsman' will be the regular locomotive once its overhaul is completed. With 'Flying Scotsman' clearly not going to be available in 2015 and no guarantee that WCRCo would be responsible for its operation if it was, along with the numerous diesel substitutions in recent years perhaps time needs calling - and this is what WCRCo have done.

York - Scarborough does appear to just about meet the criteria in the various reports as somewhere suited to operation of 'Flying Scotsman'. Thus, perhaps behind the scenes plans are being made for a different type of SSE in 2016 based around York - Scarborough shuttles. Time will tell.

Sorry about the late response. I pranged a motorcycle shortly after posting and have only just escaped from the medics.

My comment is based only on carefully reading all the published documents and years of experience writing and responding to similar ones. My perception might be wrong but I doubt it.

Got to admit having a gentle laugh at the latest NR bollock dropping festive celebration.

Are they going to blame WCRC for this one as well......

People in glass houses and all that.

I see there are now 8 'Waverley's' planned and advertised as Steam hauled from York.

I would take this with a bit of caution ! The advert at http://www.railwaytouring.net/uk-day-trips/waverley is offering haulage behind WCRC locomotives but even WCRC is only offering steam haulage from Hellifield in its 2015 tour programme. Unless things have changed I can't see WCRC letting another company offer MORE with WCRC locomotives than WCRC is able / willing to offer.

I agree. As we've discussed many times before, RTC seldom re-write their tour descriptions from one year to the next, despite changed circumstances. Sometimes you get more steam than originally offered, not not often!
