    Re: York triangle threat?

Oh, now that's very interesting. Greensfield Junction is at the south end of the KE Bridge, so did she actually cross the High Level Bridge? If so, then the ban has finally been lifted, or at least eased. That's very good news. I've been supposed to cross it on a couple of occasions by steam, only to be diverted, literally at the last moment :( . Paul, do you have the times you mention please? The UK Steam site, as far as I can see, still only has the times for that train to Scarborough.

(I'm working away at sea, so wasn't home for all this, sadly :( )

I presume the Ferme Park 70 footer will fit pretty much anything we have in this country ?, most seem to fit GWR 65 footers (albeit some with quite an overhang), but one that definetly doesn't is Princess Royals, best to make sure the table doesn't come with restrictions on what can use it from minute one.

Thanks chaps. Well, to me, looking at that set of timings, she went towards Gateshead, rather than towards Central Station at the south end of KE Bridge, then left onto the High Level Bridge, through Central Station & back out over the KE Bridge. I wonder if the restrictions on the HL Bridge have only been eased since the completion of the maintenance work on it? I wonder if there's any photos of this movement?

    Cheers

The Prinbcess Royals have a wheelbase slightly under 65ft so they will fit on a 65ft turntable, but with insufficient room for balancing.

Work is underway on the turntable pit and associated trackwork - there's a photo on the wnxx forum showing progress.

That is good news after all the doom and gloom merchants who were in full voice when the triangle closure was first announced.

Wow. With a loop to run round a support coach? A lot of work seems to be going into this.

As the photo suggests it should be visible from the footbridge west of the station, looking north along the avoiding lines.

Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to view that picture without formally joining wnxx - and I belong to enough forums as it is!

    Re: York triangle threat?

Just to clarify a little, Bittern turned thus last year, and I believe it to be the normal procedure but I could be wrong, mainline towards Gateshead, beside the site of the shed, reverse, yes, with support coach and 2 tenders, back onto KE Bridge and into Central Station to stand. Then head back along mainline south. It is fairly simple and does not obstruct mainline unduly. Since HL Bridge's restriction in loading is, I believe, due more to 'hammer blow' loading then engines not under power do not create a threat, thus towing is fine. I am not aware of any engines turning by RM depot/Hexham line but I could easily be wrong. it is a long journey compared to KE bridge junction.

There's been surprisingly little coverage of this project but a glimpse of the recently installed turntable can be seen here at about 3:52, the turning facility looks nearly complete.

    Re: York triangle threat?

5043 was the first loco to use the newly installed turntable, followed shortly after by 60009. The engineers triangle was taken out of use at midnight on Friday 14th Dec. having been used for the last time the day before to turn 60009. By the middle of last week the triangle had been largely removed.
